Cooling Curve

About

Cooling Curve is a narrow site about casting gas turbine blades: casting defects, superalloys, ceramic cores and shell moulds, directional and single-crystal solidification. It shares its name and subjects with the Russian-language Telegram channel Кривая охлаждения. The cooling curve itself is where every conversation about solidification begins.

It collects patents, journal papers, reports and reviews on these subjects. Each entry has full bibliographic data, a link to the original and a short reading of the substance: what was done, on which material, what was found, how the authors explain it and what is worth checking on your own castings.

What we select

Open publications only. Neighbouring subjects – heat treatment, HIP, coatings – are included when they bear directly on the cast blade. Welding, additive manufacturing of the part itself, forming and machining, company and market news are out of scope.

How to read an entry

  • A patent is a claimed approach, not a confirmed result. Until it is independently checked, it is an idea for a trial.
  • A laboratory paper is a reason to test, not a shop-floor instruction.
  • Simulation and theory are hypotheses about a mechanism that only an experiment can confirm.
  • Numbers in the readings come from the source only. What the source does not say, we do not fill in.
  • Each entry states what it was read from: the full text, the abstract, or the patent description and claims.
  • Figures come from publications under an open licence, with a caption and credit. Where no open figures exist, we draw our own sketch from the source text and label it as an editorial sketch.

Two languages

Every entry is published in Russian and English. The two texts match in substance; the English one is not a word-for-word translation but the same reading written for an English-speaking reader.

The site is not affiliated with the authors or patent holders of the works discussed. A reading is not a recommendation for production use.
